I try to be the best at anything I do! I don't always succeed, but I'm not a quitter! No one's mind should be limited, because denial by parents can backfire, like it did for both of my parents, ask them. Way to many future adults are limited by a society that labels them negatively, i.e., disabled, handicapped, disadvantaged, etc., then expects them to produce quality accomplishments. If you are told you are disabled, then why do they want you to do anything? They labelled you, disabled! This is a self-fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? Some very important concerns are brought up here, but will you be an agent of positive change or will you take the road most travelled? Have a happy life, I will!!

My family treated me like a freak, because of my Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), which happened in 1977. I was riding an outdated three wheeler & wearing no helmet. I was in a coma for about 3 months. This tragedy happened because my father took me off my medication to control my challenges (disabled, disability, handicapped, disadvantaged is too negative of a word for humans to be labelled or you can try it for awhile and see how you like it) in 1978. Also there were very few survivors of TBI to provide correct guidance & assurance that I could be normal again. My mother wanted to send me to an institution. Both parents hated me along with other family relations, because before the wreck I was destined for the Olympics & the Air Force. It would be 1988 before I got on medication again, however for the next four years I was misdiagnosed with many serious illnesses, i.e., Brain Disabled, Alzheimer's, Organici Brain Disorder (given less than 6 months to live), Schizophrenia, Seizure Disorder, Epilepsy, etc., along with wrong medications. In 1992, I got with a doctor from Harvard and he pointed me down the correct path for medication for my challenge, etc. I have taught in a public school for over three weeks this year and I love it. Remember that the college I attended for a teaching certificate denied me certification because of my episodes, they thought they were epileptic, but my doctor told them that they were not! I will succeed, because my God doesn't make freaks, only "Challenged Conquistadors!!" Amen.
